What Is Optimum Nutrition?
Let’s pretend your body is a high-powered European sports car! However, you decide to use regular gas in your car even though it’s designed to run only on premium gas.
Over time this is going to destroy your car. On the other hand, by putting premium gas in and doing regular maintenance, you are setting it up to run at optimal performance.
The same is true for our body. The foods we eat or don’t eat is either building up or breaking down our body. The phrase “You are what you eat” in this context could be changed to “You become what you eat” — More healthy and vibrant or tired and lethargic. Putting in premium fuel to our body, will allow us to run at optimal performance.
A study at the University of Illinois revealed that “Many American adults fell short of consuming enough vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium, and iron. In addition, Americans have a tendency to eat far more saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium than is normal or recommended.”
The real statistics behind our societies nutrition: “We found that American people consume much lower amounts of nutrients than are recommended. For example, only 11.3 percent of people meet the daily recommended intake of fiber. Only 4.7 percent of adults consume recommended amounts of potassium.”
Are you getting the nutrition your body demands? If not read on.
Back to the car analogy
Why do people put regular gas in their car versus premium all the time?
Is it because most people think their car doesn’t need premium?
Is it that we don’t realize how bad the gas is now?
Or is it the big cost difference between regular and premium?
Well, perhaps it’s time to treat your body like a Ferrari. Would you put regular gasoline in a high-performance car? You wouldn’t. Your body is a high-performance sports car. (and more importantly, it’s the only body you get in this lifetime!)
The quality of its performance depends on the fuel you put in your body. If you aren’t treating yourself to high-quality optimum nutrition over time, your performance will degrade like an engine who’s oil hasn’t been changed for tens-of-thousands of miles.
How To Improve Your Nutrition
The first most important thing to do is eat fresh foods. Choosing healthy options on a daily basis by making better choices.
Instead of that can of soda, grab a glass of water.
Instead of a doughnut with a coffee at the drive-thru, have a healthy snack on hand to curve your hunger cravings.
Do you eat Breakfast? How do you start your day?
Small changes can result in big improvements. You don’t have to overhaul the engine to improve the performance. It starts with just putting the right gas in your car 🙂

How To Reach Optimal Performance
Even once you decide to put premium gas into your body; not all of your needs will be met. This is because the soils in which our foods are grown have been depleted over the generations and don’t pass along all of the needed minerals to our food base. That’s where supplements come in! But which one(s) and how do you choose the correct ones to support your body?? I have learned over the last 20 years there are vast differences between companies and their products.
You want for starters those that have the following qualities:
- Whole food
- Certified Organic
- Non GMO
- No synthetic filler material
- No byproducts that your body cannot ingest.
(Many supplements on the market contain the last 2 items! 🙁 )
