“Remember, George: no man is a failure who has friends.”
The classic film “It’s A Wonderful Life” comes to mind as I ponder Family. The major lesson I got from this story is we might not realize how wonderful life IS until we are at a crossroad… Where we might lose it all or have lost it all. Fortunately for George, he understands how important HE is to his family and community and how important THEY are to him before he throws it all away.
For the majority of us, our family life isn’t perfect (or even close)… But are there small steps you can take to make improvements?
The best present you can give to your family is being PRESENT yourself. Make time and take time; to be with them. I know some of my greatest memories with my Grandparents are just sharing a lunch with them or sitting to play a game of cards, go for a walk or help with a project.
Think back to a happy time with a family member – it just put a smile on your face, didn’t it!?
OK… If you didn’t think of anything yet, don’t get worried… you are not alone! You can start and CREATE a happy time today or tomorrow. Pick up the phone and let that person you know that you are thinking of them. Find out if you can stop by. Drop them a quick note… It won’t take much to put a smile on someone else’s face and that will start a whole stream of good new memories to build upon.
One book I read that has help me realize we have difference things that are important to us is The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. It is helpful in family and in business relationships.
Another big piece of the puzzle for me was attending Humans Being More, a self discovery experiential learning workshop. It was required when I started this business; I am so glad it was! It was so profound for me that I’ve hosted it many times in our area. Please email me if you’d like more information.
